Families here in New Jersey are struggling to pay the bills and to afford the basics, and solving those problems will be a deeply personal mission in Congress. I grew up in a family of six in Blairstown and my Mom worked hard to support us, but we still struggled financially. There were points in my life where I counted on Medicaid and food assistance to make ends meet. I’ve always fought to make lives better for workers and families. When I am in Congress my neighbors and constituents will never have to wonder where I am or if I have their back.
I know what it’s like to raise a family in tough times – how grocery prices, taxes, health care costs, and housing shortages can make it feel impossible for families to get by, let alone thrive. I am running for Congress to ensure that families can afford to live in New Jersey.
Having led climate change science at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), I have made it my mission to better protect against the threat of climate change and ensure that families have access to affordable, healthy food. These are both critical to ensure a safe and secure future for our children.
So much is at stake as Trump and his allies in Washington D.C. attack working families in New Jersey – from ripping away affordable health care to attacking critical food assistance we rely on. This moment calls for a representative who understands that families are struggling to get by and who already has a record of standing up to Donald Trump by refusing to obey his orders. I will fight to do what is right and stand up for working families every single day.
