February 24, 2026

O’Rourke Would Become the First Woman with a Natural Science Ph.D in Congress

O’Rourke Will Rebuild Trust in Science, Restore Investment in R&D, and Advance Data-Based Policies

Andover, NJ – Over 200 scientists from across the country endorsed Dr. Megan O’Rourke–a scientist, former farmer, and labor leader – in New Jersey’s Democratic primary for the seventh congressional district. If elected, Dr. O’Rourke would be the first woman with a natural science Ph.D. to serve in Congress.

“I will use my background as a scientist to make decisions, based on facts and evidence, to fight for New Jersey families, make life more affordable, and to hold the Trump Administration accountable,” said O’Rourke. “The Trump Administration is systematically dismantling trust in science and America’s research capabilities. I saw it first-hand when I was a lead scientist with the USDA. When President Trump came to office, he attacked my work and the work of my colleagues. I decided to run for Congress to stand up to Trump and rebuild our scientific and research capacity so we can face the country’s big challenges based on data-driven policies.”

Megan’s science platform includes three priorities: rebuilding trust in science, restoring public investments in research and development, and advancing data-based policies to address societal challenges, including climate change.

The endorsers include researchers, faculty, federal scientists, medical professionals, and other STEM experts. The campaign will continue to earn support from scientists and STEM leaders. A link to the endorsement form can be found here.

O’Rourke has been endorsed by Rep. Ro Khanna, Former NJ Rep. Dr. Rush Holt, Rep. Chellie Pingree, and four local unions. She is building strong grassroots support throughout the district.
